I Ran the Same Photo Through Five One-Click Apps and One Real Editor

By August 4, 2026No Comments

Nothing scientific about the setup. One photo I liked, five of those one-button “AI photo” apps from the usual toplists, and one actual NSFW AI image editor. Same starting image across the board. I wanted to know if the editor category is genuinely a different thing or just the same trick with a higher price tag.

The five apps went about how you’d guess. Upload, press the button, receive The Output. Two were passable, three were mush, and all five hit the same dead end: whatever came out was the end of the conversation. One of them absolutely nailed the body and wrecked the background, and there was nothing to be done about it. No “keep this, fix that.” A filter doesn’t listen. It applies.

The editor session felt different from the second instruction on, not the first. First pass โ€” outfit to lingerie โ€” was fine, roughly what a filter manages on a good day. But the setting was wrong, so I typed: keep everything else, move it to a hotel room. It did. Face untouched, body untouched, new scene behind them. Then: warmer light. Three rounds, a couple of minutes and a few credits, and the exact picture I’d had in my head was sitting on the screen. Same person, same feel as the original shot. Just the version of it I actually wanted.

The last row is the sleeper. The best frame of the whole experiment came from a chain: an AI face swap first, then the editor to restage the scene around the new face until it read as one photograph instead of a swap pasted into somebody else’s picture. The people producing results you can’t clock aren’t sitting on secret apps. They stack two or three tools, and the editor is the glue between them.

So, verdict, since I promised one. The category difference is real. A filter hands you its one guess and that’s the end of it, while an editor keeps taking instructions until the image matches the one in your head. Getting there took me less time than writing this post did. Run the test yourself with a photo you actually care about โ€” it cost me a few credits and settled the question for good.
